Mayor Making 2026

At Kidderminster Town Council’s Annual Meeting and Mayor Making Ceremony held on Tuesday 12th May 2026, Councillor Shazu Miah was elected as Mayor of Kidderminster for the next municipal year. He will be supported throughout his term by his wife, Farjana Khan, who will serve as Mayoress.

Councillor Miah, of Bangladeshi origin, is the first ethnic minority Mayor of Kidderminster Town Council, marking a significant milestone for diversity and inclusion in the community and the town’s civic history.

Councillor Miah, shared his journey within his speech, and expressed his thanks to all guests for listening and attending the special evening. He also thanked the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Doug Hine, and his wife, Ros, for their fantastic service to the town and the community during his year as Mayor.

During his mayoral year, Councillor Miah will be raising funds for 2 charities:

  • Kidderminster & District Youth Trust, which works to empower and support young people to reach their full potential.
  • HELP, who are a local charity in Kidderminster supporting the homeless and people in need within Wyre Forest.

Also elected at the meeting was Councillor John Beckingham, who will serve as Deputy Mayor for the coming year.
