Mayor’s Civic Sunday Service 22nd June

The Mayor’s Civic Sunday Service took place at St Mary and All Saints Church in Kidderminster. On Sunday 22nd June, the Mayor of Kidderminster, Councillor Doug Hine, was joined by fellow Town Councillors, Past Mayors, Honorary Freemen, and the CEO of Kidderminster Town Council. The group paraded from the Town Hall to the church, where they were welcomed by the High Sherrif, Rev Hayward Osborne, civic dignitaries and members of the community.

The annual Mayor’s Civic Sunday event formally marks the welcome of the newly elected Mayor and serves as an opportunity to bring together civic leaders, community representatives, and residents. The theme of this year’s service was Sanctuary Sunday, a key part of Refugee Week, with readings highlighting the Christian message of ‘love thy neighbour as yourself.

The mayor said:

I’d like to thank all that attended the service. It was a good opportunity to express our care and compassion to refugees — those whose lives are turned upside down by war, oppression, and climate destruction. A huge and heartfelt thanks to all who attended and supported the event, and sincere thanks to St Mary and All Saints Church for kindly hosting the service, and to the Wyre Forest Refugee Group, Standard Bearers and all guest speakers for their valued contributions to this meaningful occasion.
