Kidderminster-Husum Twinning Association Visits Husum, Germany

The Kidderminster-Husum Twinning Association have recently visited Kidderminster’s twin town of Husum, located in North Friesland, Germany. On the first weekend of June, it was their ‘Ringrinder Festival’, where horse riders in ceremonial dress parade through the streets of the town, before competing to find the most accomplished rider, who is recognised as the ‘King’.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Kidderminster, Councillor Doug Hine and Ros Hine, had travelled to Husum with the group and represented Kidderminster Town Council at the civic reception held at Husum Town Hall. The Mayor said:

“It has been a great honour for me and Ros to be part of the Kidderminster delegation to Husum. The City of Husum, and the Partnership (Twinning) Association have looked after us very well.

We have enjoyed the local sights and culture. We have made new friends and renewed old friendships.

The experience of the last few days demonstrates that peace and understanding is strengthened through grassroots relationships, between individual people and community groups and this is what underpins the philosophy of the twinning or town partnership movement.

Next year is the 60th anniversary of the Kidderminster-Husum Twinning Association and one way we will celebrate this is with a civic visit from Husum to Kidderminster. Kidderminster Town Council will formally write to Husum City Council to invite them to come.”

Also visiting during the weekend was a delegation from another of Husum’s twin towns – Trzcianka of Poland (near Poznan).
